Note: "Six of one" is the name of an episode of Battlestar Galactica (2008), and an early name for the TV show Friends.
On Twitter, several people commented that the idiom six of one, half a dozen of the other sounds unidiomatic, or unnatural, in the quiz question above, and others agreed. Commenting were speakers of British, American, Canadian, and Australian English.
A few also offered alternative forms of the idiom. Given the interest, I decided to explore the phrase a little deeper. Here's a look.
Incidentally, the answer to the quiz question is B, "not interested in vegetables." The sentence was shortened for Twitter. It originally read "Phil raised an open hand and said, 'To me, six of one and half a dozen of the other.' "
Several people commented that D, "having a hard time choosing," works.
